Graduate Programme 'Environmental Humanities'
Presentation :
The Environmental Humanities Graduate Programme examines the ‘environmental’ repositioning of the 21st century by studying humans in their relativity and interdependence with other dimensions of their environment through literary, historical, political, sociological, cultural, artistic and spiritual perspectives. The programme is based on the paradigm shift that has relativized the human exception and the anthropocentric view which have dominated Western philosophy and culture since the Renaissance (Bruno Latour, Philippe Descola); the new modes of ecological thinking now in place favour an ethic of justice and transdisciplinary thinking in order to respond holistically and in an open-minded way to environmental challenges.
In the face of the current crises of biodiversity and climate change, the mission of environmental humanities is to train students to develop a critical mind capable of adapting to environmental risks, questioning the human challenges of ecological transitions, and decarbonizing the imagination beyond normative prescriptions. The programme will include lectures and workshops for M1 and M2 students with the participation of doctoral students.
